Chronic is a classic hybrid bred in 1994 by Serious Seeds, the Dutch company founded by breeder Simon. Its genetics combine Northern Lights/Skunk with Northern Lights/AK-47, with the AK-47 element added in the late 1990s. It placed third at the 1994 High Times Cannabis Cup and won first at the 2003 La Bella Flor Cup, and it is known as the highest-yielding variety in the Serious Seeds catalog. Reported THC ranges widely, from the low teens into the low 20s. Lineage and origin Northern Lights and Skunk were two of the most influential strains of the 1980s and 1990s, prized for resin, vigor, and stability. AK-47, another Serious Seeds creation, adds a sativa-leaning lift. Chronic was designed to deliver both quality and quantity, which helped it become a staple among home and commercial growers in Europe and beyond.
