Chitral is a rare and highly distinctive pure indica landrace originating from the remote Chitral District of Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, nestled in the Hindu Kush mountain range near the Afghan border. This ancient cultivar has been selectively cultivated by the Kalash people and other indigenous communities of the Chitral valley for centuries, developing unique genetic characteristics that set it apart from other Afghan-Pakistani landraces, most notably its extraordinary tendency to produce vivid purple and pink hues in its flowers.
